Here the Lord God is seeing the people for who they truly are. They say that they love the Lord, and they go through the motions. But God can see that they do not worship him out of love. Their worship is based on manmade rules. The people do not have the love of God in their hearts. The Lord accuses them of hypocrisy. They say one thing, but their actions show their evil ways.

God promises to show them a marvelous work. The so called wise will perish and the understanding of the prudence shall vanish. God warns those who thinks that the evil they do in the dark will not come to light. They say, “Who sees us?” Can the clay say to the potter, “Who will know? You know nothing. You did not make me”. The people cannot deny the existence of God the creator. The people cannot live as if God does not see them.

Isaiah is predicting a big change and the change will be coming soon. The change is so great it is comparable to a forest laden Lebanon becoming a fertile field. On that day the ears of the dead will be opened, and the eyes of the blind will see. When this day comes it will be a day of rejoicing for the poor and the humble. God will get rid of those who commit injustices against the poor and humble. Isaiah reports that three types of people will dread that day of change. They are the ruthless, the mockers, and those who have an eye for evil. They will vanish or be cut off. They have no mercy for the innocent and less fortunate, and they deprive the innocent of justice.

Isaiah says that God who saved Abraham from his pagan background promises that the children of Jacob will no longer live in shame. Because the children will walk in the way of the Lord. They will keep his name Holy. The children will praise His name. they will be in awe of his Holiness and have reverence for the Lord. Isaiah also said that those who have erred and have been wayward in spirit will gain understanding of the Lord. And those that murmur and complain will accept God’s instruction. At the appropriate time the Lord will turn the hearts of His people back to Him.
